History

Dr. Riba’s Health Club (DrRHC) was founded in 2002 by Dr. Patricia Riba as a pilot program of the Children and Families Commission of Orange County to address the prevalence of obesity and related health conditions in young children. DrRHC utilizes a multi-disciplinary team including a pediatrician, two Registered Dietitians, fitness trainers, and a case manager to treat obesity and other nutrition related issues for children ages 0-18.

Between 2008 and 2010, DrRHC moved its services to HOPE Clinic, a school-based clinic in NMUSD, with the support of Hoag Hospital. At this time, we began doing educational outreach programs at nearby schools and evaluating our treatment services to measure our obesity efforts. We also began implementing new programs such as Fit Club, an after school and summer exercise program, and PC-Fit (Parent-Child Feeding Interaction Therapy), a collaboration with the Child Guidance Center which aims to prevent and treat eating disorders through a live coaching intervention.

Between 2010 and 2014, DrRHC became its own entity and moved to our full time site at the Santa Ana YMCA, using OneOC as our fiscal sponsor. We continued to see patients at our satellite sites at HOPE Clinic and Mission Viejo.

We now assembled a board of long time supporters and founded our own non profit called Fit Kid Squad.

Today, we reach over 4,000 underserved families per year with four clinics throughout Orange County (Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, and San Juan Capistrano) and multiple programs, including: Health Club, Fit Club, PC-Fit, Fit Scouts, education programs and provider trainings. In May 2014 we assembled a board of long time supporters and founded our own nonprofit called Fit Kid Squad! We are excited to finally be our own entity enabling us to continue to grow and treat the most important children’s health issues of our time.
