Exercise can be such a burden sometimes, especially, when you try to find the time to do it together as a family. You can make exercising fun by exercising as a group to increase motivation for the whole family! It allows for bonding time and new experiences for everyone.
If you increase physical activity daily, it can decrease your risk of developing diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer, and heart disease. It is important to teach our children early habits that will benefit their health since they will carry it for the rest of their lives.
We want our children to have healthy, happy lives they can enjoy. Also, getting that vitamin D from sunlight helps your health! (Of course, make sure to put on sunscreen!)
Here are just a few ideas you can use for getting the whole family to be physically active:
1.Create an obstacle course with chalk or small cones.
2.Have a freeze dance party
3.Bike riding as a family
4.Create DIY carnival games in your backyard. You use things you may already have in your house such as milk cartons, a ball to throw for bowling, water balloon toss, ring toss on used bottles, rubber ducks in a small blow-up pool with water for ring toss, and many more!
5.Work together in the garden. Allow family members to choose a flower/produce to plant.
6.Do yoga as a family. Not only is this good for reducing stress, but it’s also a great workout that is slower paced.
7.Play traditional games such as hide and seek, freeze tag, and cops and robbers.
8.Go to a local nature center to hike the trails, appreciate nature, and see different animals in their habitat. You can make hiking fun with activities like scavenger hunts, animal bingo, story-telling, and reading educational displays in visitor centers.
These are just some ideas to create fun lasting memories while still being active. Come up with your own and see what happens! Remember to be safe!
